Corey Brewer

Corey Brewer was born in Toronto, Tennessee and attended Portland High School. He played multiple sports, but saw his greatest achievements while playing basketball for the Portland Panthers. As a junior, he led the Panthers to the Tennessee High School State Basketball tournament semi-finals. During Corey Brewer's senior year, he was drafted to the elite McDonald’s All-American Team and played in the Jordan Brand All-American game in 2004.

After high school, Corey Brewer accepted an athletic scholarship to play for the University of Florida under Coach Billy Donovan. Corey Brewer is considered one of four important 2004 Florida recruits that had a significant impact on the Gator’s winning streak from 2005 to 2007. During these three years, the Gators won two consecutive NCAA Tournament national championships (2006 and 2007) and three SEC tournament championships.

During his freshman year, Corey Brewer scored double figures eight times throughout the season and averaged 3.4 rebounds and 7.5 points per game. In the second round of the 2005 NCAA Tournament, he scored 11 points against Villanova. He also earned SEC All-Freshman Team honors.

Corey Brewer registered Florida’s first triple-double in school history with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and 13 assists against Jacksonville in 2006. In the second round of the NCAA Tournament against Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Corey Brewer scored 5 three pointers and a total of 23 points. In the Final Four, he scored 19 points against George Mason. Finally, in the National Championship game against UCLA, he made 11 points and was responsible for 7 rebounds. Subsequently, Corey Brewer was named to the Final Four’s All-Tournament Team.

In his junior year, he ranked second on the Florida Gators in scoring and assists, while ranking third in rebounding. In the SEC Tournament semi-finals, Corey Brewer scored a season high of 22 points against Ole Miss. In round one of the NCAA Tournament, he led the Gators with 21 points against Jackson State. During the 2007 Final Four, Corey Brewer scored 19 points against UCLA and was voted the Most Outstanding Player. In the National Championship game, he scored 13 points and 8 rebounds against Ohio State.

During the 2007 NBA Draft, Corey Brewer was drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves and was selected 7th overall in the draft. In his rookie year, he played 70 games and was in the starting line-up 35 times. In late 2008, Corey Brewer underwent surgery for an ACL tear and missed the remaining portion of the 2008-2009 season.

CoreyBrewer bounced back from his injury by finishing 9th in the voting for the NBA’s Most Improved Player Award. In the final game of his third season, he scored 27 points to match a career-high against the Detroit Pistons. In February 2011, Corey Brewer was traded to the New York Knicks, but did not play a game for them.

In March 2011, he signed a three-year deal with the Dallas Mavericks and participated in an NBA Championship win in the 2011 NBA Finals against the Miami Heat. Later that year, Corey Brewer was traded to the Denver Nuggets.

Corey returned to Minnesota after signing a $15 million, three-year contract in 2013. In April 2014, he scored another career high with 51 points against the Houston Rockets. He joins Allen Iverson, Michael Jordan, and Rick Barry as the only NBA players to score 50 plus points and 6 plus steals in one game.

In December 2014, Corey Brewer was traded to the Houston Rockets. In his debut against the Portland Trail Blazers, he scored 12 points, 4 assists, 5 steals, 4 rebounds, and 1 block in under 23 minutes. He continued this momentum through early 2015 as he scored season highs of 26 points and 10 rebounds against the Toronto Raptors. As of July 2015, Corey Brewer committed to the Rockets for another 3 years in a $23.4 million contract.
